Words for a Friend
“We had just finished reading Flora and Ulysses by Kate DiCamillo, and the poem is in kind of the same format as the last poem Ulysses wrote for Flora. It was a very heartfelt poem, so I wanted to write mine about someone whom I strongly care about. It was, in fact, inspired by someone in my life, a good friend of mine. She is very reassuring, and if I have a problem with anything, she’ll help me work through it.”
Words for a Friend
In this
world of
everlasting dark,
you,
you are the
light
that leads me,
The shadows-
They leap, dash, they go
Away when you come through,
you
eliminate all the fear
that resides
within me.
