World War II Facts

Sophia has done some very good research into these facts about World War II. Here is what inspired her. “I wrote about WWII because I find it interesting and we were reading about it in class and I wanted to know more.” by Sophia, Age 10

World War II Facts

1. World War II started on September 1, 1939 and ended on September 2, 1945.

2. The war was the Allies vs the Axis powers. The Allies were Britain, France, Russia, China and the USA. The Axis powers were Germany, Japan, Italy. 

3. The Allies won the war after Germany surrendered but the war still went on in the United States and Japan. 

4. There were many major battles in WWII including The Pearl Harbor attack, Battle of Britain, Battle of Berlin, and D-Day.

5. VE (Victory in Europe) Day is on May 8th each year. We celebrate VE Day to remember the armed forces who fought or lost their lives in WWII.

6. The Holocaust was one of the most terrible events in history. Adolf Hitler wanted to get rid of all Jewish people.

7. Adolf Hitler was the man who started the Nazi party and WWII. His plan was to create his idea of a perfect race of people. 

8. WWII started when the Nazis invaded Poland. Then Britain and France joined in because they were allied to Poland. Also the Nazi won against the Polish army plus they took over France.

9. There was a bear in the Polish army when they fought against the Nazi in the beginning of WWII. After WWII he was sent to Edinburgh Zoo in Scotland.

10. Many books were written about WWII and its victims such as Anne Frank and others. You can find books about them in a library near you!
