Guess the pictures, then add or subtract letters to form words on the blank spaces that are ‘simple machines’. Each blank space is for one letter. If you have it right, the word should fit perfectly on the blank spaces. Write your answers on a piece of paper, and keep the answer key covered at the bottom until you’re ready to check. Good-luck! Q: What did the banana say to the vampire?
A: Nothing! Banana’s don’t talk! (Jeremy, Age 12)
Q: Which ice cream do whales like best?
Who’s there? Ducks go.
Ducks go who? No! Ducks don’t go ‘who’, owls do! (Casey, Age 10)
Really, what is caring? What is inside us that makes us want to care or feel a way towards someone or something? Caring means a lot of things to a lot of different people. To me, caring is a necessity in life and can not be bargained by one. Caring requires presence and attention. Continue reading
The name’s Jerry, but you can call me your new personal trainer. Playtime’s over, it’s Jerry time! I’m going to teach you the secret to looking as ‘Jerry’ as can be. Turn up your favorite jam and let’s boogie!
Jumpin’ Jerry Jacks
I named this one after… you guessed it, ME!!! Grab your timer and see how many jumping jacks you can do in 2-4 minutes.
- If you’re a wee lizard, then start with 2 minutes
- If you’re a cobra, then muster it up for 3 minutes
- And if you’re a T-Rex, then go for 4 minutes and don’t look back!
They’d better be quick if you wanna look sharp! And remember to count how many you do before the timer goes off. Don’t start until I say so…are you ready? Okay…. GO!!! 1 – 2 – 3 – 4. That’s right, snap those french fries. Keep it up!
When you’re done, let’s do a bit of a cool down: Continue reading
“Hi, Crazer! My name’s Robbie and I’ve been practicing really hard to make it to the team of the Vermilion Tigers. I’m really excited for the hockey season to start, even though I’m mad that summer ended early. I’ve never been in hockey and can’t wait for tryouts. Thanks!” Robbie, Age 10
Rob, my man! I bet you made the team and now you’re cuttin’ the ice! Hockey is one of my most fad winter sports too! Keep gettin’ on the gear and doin’ the best for your team! Thanks for the rad letter! Continue reading
Late at night, a police officer is dispatched to a residential break-and-enter in progress. Upon arrival, the officer finds that the culprits are gone and the shaken homeowner states that the three males in dark clothing took off across his backyard. The quick-thinking officer calls on his radio:
“Dispatch, this is Alpha one. Do we have a dog available?”
“10-4 Alpha one. Echo 5 and Grief are on their way to your location.”
Within minutes, Echo 5, which is the Police Services Dog vehicle, arrives with the two very eager officers, the dog handler, and his dog Grief. The investigating officer updates the dog handler as to where the suspects were last seen and their last known direction of travel. The officer has also advised other police units in the area who, by now, have set up in a box pattern in the vicinity of the home to ensure the suspects don’t get far. Continue reading

“Happiness is an attitude. We either make ourselves miserable, or happy and strong.”
This saying by Francesa Peicler, describes the book titled Holes, and how people aren’t afraid to show attitude or do or say what they feel. This is demonstrated by Zero listening to everyone calling him stupid. Out of no where, he shows attitude and strikes Mr. Pendanski on the side of the head and runs away into the large wasteland. Everyone shows attitude once in a while, sometimes it’s because people mistreat you or your friend.
Kind of like Stanley’s situation when he got angry because everyone made Zero run away. Stanley took charge by stealing Mr. Sir’s water truck to go find Zero. Louis Sachar demonstrated that some people control how they feel by deciding what they let bother them. Review by Carissa, Age 12 Continue reading
