Draw a Platypus!

230117_4

Have you ever tried to draw a platypus before? They are a very unusual animal that would be interesting to learn more about and draw a picture of. Grab a piece of paper, a pencil and some crayons. You could draw something similar to the student’s art that you see here or your own idea!

Pointers and interesting facts:

  • The bill is like the platypus’ nose. Include two little ovals where air comes in and out of the bill. These nostrils are watertight so that the animal can stay submerged for up to two minutes as it searches for food.
  • Draw the shape of the body so it looks like smooth fur.
  • The webbed feet help to propel the platypus when it swims in the water.
  • The platypus has a tail like a beaver. It is broad and flat. It is used as a stabiliser when a platypus swims. Fat is stored in the tail for the times when food is scarce.
  • The legs are stout (very short).
