Origami Balloon

Create your own cute Origami Balloon. You can use origami paper or cut a square out of construction paper of the same width and height. Japanese traditional origami paper is 8.5inch in height and 11 inch in width. But this craft works for any square piece of paper.

What You Need:

  • 8.5 x 11 inch sheet of paper or origami paper
  • scissors

Directions

Fold the top left corner down to the right edge and make sure the edges are lined up as close as possible. Then press on the fold and make a good crease.
Then carefully cut off the extra paper you see below so that the two edges match up.
Open the sheet up after you’ve finished cutting, and it will look like this with a crease down the middle
Fold the top corner down to match the bottom corner as close as you can. Press down the fold to make a crease.
Now when you open it, you should have a square that has an ‘X’ in it.
Fold the paper down in half and match the edges. Have the open bottom facing you. Press along the fold to make a crease.
Tuck in the right side along the creases you’ve made so it looks like this
Now repeat this same step on the other side and it will form a triangle.
Look at the tip the arrow is pointing to in #8. Grab that right bottom tip and fold it UP to the top point.
Do the same on the left side, and it will look like this. Press along the folds to make a good crease.
Turn it over and do the same on the other side. It will end up looking like this.
You’ll have two layers. Take the right tip of the first layer, and fold it in to the center of the triangle.
Do the same on the left side.
Flip it over and do the exact same thing on the other side. It will end up looking like this.
Now, at the top, you’ll have two free wings. Take the right wing and fold it in half so it meets the center.
Then you are going to fold the same wing one more time as shown. The right sides should line up.
The wing you just folded twice, if you look under it, you’ll find the paper can open into a little pocket. Take this wing you just folded and tuck it inside this pocket. Then push it flat.
Now take the left wing and do the exact same thing to it (steps 15, 16 & 17).
Flip the paper over and do the exact same steps with the top right and left wings, tucking them into the pockets.
Open up the sides so it looks like this. Flip it over, you’ll find a tip where there’s a small hole.

Blow in the hole like a balloon. It may take a few tries but eventually it should puff up like this. Once it is blown up, you can also fill it with water to make a water bomb!
