Pudgie Sandwiches

100816_1Pie-iron sandwiches, A.K.A. pudgies, are easy to make and a delicious campfire meal. Here are three recipes you can try! They are all according to taste, so modify the ingredients as you like. Be sure to always have an adult assist you around the campfire. And if you don’t have a pie-iron, see the information below where you could pick one up!

Sloppy Joe Pudgie

  • 2 slices of bread
  • sloppy joe seasoning mix (comes in a package)
  • ground beef (precooked)
  • barbecue sauce
  • onion
  • butter or margarine

Step 1: Chop the onion quite fine.

Step 2: Mix sloppy joe seasoning, hamburger, a little barbecue sauce, and chopped onion together (or instead you can use pre-cooked canned chili or sloppy joe filling).

Step 3: Spread butter on 2 slices of bread.

Step 4: Place bread slices in cooker cavity with the buttered sides next to the pie iron.

Step 5: On the inside of one of the slices, put the sloppy joe filling. Be careful to not overflow!

Step 6: Close the pie iron and toast until the bread is golden brown, about 4 to 6 minutes.

 Pizza Pie Pudgie

  • vegetables of your choice (peppers, mushrooms, onions, black olives, slivered garlic etc.)
  • 2 slices of bread
  • tomato puree
  • oregano seasoning or chopped leaves
  • grated cheese
  • pepperoni etc.
  • butter or margarine

Step 1:  Cut up some vegetables in small chunks that you’d like in your pizza pudgie.

Step 2: Butter the outside of two slices of bread.

Step 3: On the insides of both slices of bread, spread tomato puree.

Step 4: Place bread slices in cooker cavity with the buttered sides next to the pie iron.

Step 5: Put the remaining pizza ingredients on one of the bread slices and close the pie iron.

Step 6: Toast until the bread is golden brown, about 4 to 6 minutes.

100816_2Rocky Road Pudgie

  • 2 slices of bread
  • peanut butter
  • large marshmallows
  • chocolate bar squares (how many is up to you!)

Step 1: Spread the peanut butter on 2 slices of bread.

Step 2: Place bread slices in cooker cavity with the buttered sides next to the pie iron.

Step 3: Put large marshmallows and the chocolate bar squares on top of one of the slices (but not too much).

Step 4: Close the cooker and toast until bread is golden brown, about 4 to 6 minutes.
